This project is an exploration of uncovering and proving provenance, and a proposal for presenting a lost and forgotten artwork in a new way on the blockchain. I recovered an unknown and unattributed terracotta sculpture at the site of the former Hollywood Art Center, founded in 1912. My investigation, with the assistance of the Hollywood Art Center Archive, revealed this was a lost self portrait of Nina Sæmundsson, Iceland’s first professional female sculptor and an instructor at the historic Hollywood Art Center circa 1930s-40s.
